FOX 7's Jenni Lee caught up with the judges from So You Think You Dance? when they were in town to look for dancers.
Season Ten of FOX's hit series, So You Think You Can Dance? debuted on FOX 7 Tuesday.
Actress, Minnie Driver, joined the cast just for Austin's auditions. Driver is an accomplished actress, but did you know she's also a dancer?
"I do a classical jam with my friend who is an amazing insane teacher, its sort of contemporary jazz, belly dancing," said Driver.
FOX 7 asked Driver to show off her moves.
"Nooo! Hahahahaha. I haven't got my dancing shoes on. I'm going to get to dance in a movie one of these days," said Driver.
Dancers practiced as they waited their turn before the judges. Austin had a variety to offer.
However, judge Nigel Lythgoe was not impressed.
"I love Austin, we've been here many times with American Idol and generally, you get a really good crowd with tons of people," Lythgoe said. "Been a little disappointed this morning to be honest with you. Just nobody's unique enough. We'll see how they get on doing their own thing but this morning they were thrown into it, different piece of music that they knew, they had to improvise , a little disappointed."
Judge Mary Murphy agreed and said dancers they had seen so far were nervous.
"It's hard for them," Murphy said. "Even though we try to settle them down, we try to talk to them before they go up there, let them know too that we're coming from a position that hey we were dancers too. We took a lot of no's in our career. If they choose this as your path, you're going to hear a lot of no's and hear a lot of criticism."
Judges weren't just looking for good dancers though.
"They got to come along with a personality," Lythgoe said. "We all know nobody's going to win this show unless they're a personality. They have to connect with us through their eyes and show us what they're feeling. A lot of dancers have walls they produce, they won't let anybody in, I think people in general are like that and when walls come down."
During Jenni Lee's interview with Nigel, he started dancing with her. He explained how he's a big fan of small people because when they dance, you can't tell how small they are.
To see the real dancers compete, tune in every Tuesday night on FOX 7.
