WHEATON, Ill. (Associated Press) -

A DuPage County jury has convicted a man accused of killing the family of his ex-girlfriend.

The jury deliberated a little over two hours Tuesday before finding Johnny Borizov guilty of first-degree murder. In final arguments, prosecutors said Borizov so desperately wanted his ex-girlfriend and her family dead because of a child custody dispute that he recruited a "patsy" to carry out the 2010 attack.

Jacob Nodarse pleaded guilty but mentally ill in the killings in the Chicago suburb of Darien. However, prosecutors contended Borizov ultimately was responsible for the deaths of Jeffrey and Lori Kramer, and their 20-year-old son, Michael. Borizov's ex-girlfriend, Angela Kramer, survived the attack by hiding in a closet.

Borizov's attorneys contended Nodarse's history of mental illness and drug abuse made his testimony unreliable.
