Man shoots himself at ER after earlier shooting at Jamba Juice

Posted: Updated:

Phoenix police say a 28-year-old man shot himself in a hospital where he'd gone after allegedly being involved in an apparent domestic dispute that left another man wounded.

The man who shot himself at a lobby of John C. Lincoln Hospital Monday night had earlier walked into a Jamba Juice store near 27th Avenue and Thunderbird with a handgun.  He forced three workers to the rear of the business and took their cell phones.

Later, he forced a 24-year-old worker outside and according to authorities, the victim fought back.  At one point, the suspect dropped his gun, but picked it up again and shot the victim twice.

The victim suffered life threatening injuries.

Sgt. Trent Crump says the hospital shooting occurred after an officer arrived in response to a call about a man with a gun to his head.

The suspect and victim are alive in critical condition.

Crump says the two wounded men were former boyfriends.

No names have been released in this case.
