NJ police arrest suspect who assaulted his infant son

NEW JERSEY (MYFOXNY.COM) -

New Jersey authorities arrested 34-year-old Michael Bell in Newark Saturday night after tried to leave the state.

The Union County prosecutor said Bell, who severely assaulted his infant son Friday night, tried to escape on a bus. He was taken to the Union County Jail and ordered held without bail by Superior Court.

Bell's three-month old son was inside his home after police were called to Lee Place in Plainfield around 10:35 p.m. The child was taken to Robert Wood Johnson Hospital where he is listed in grave condition.

The infant is still suffering from fractures and internal bleeding. 

Bell has been charged with second degree aggravated assault. He initially fled the scene after assaulting his son.

    Jersey City has 26 new firefighters, including the city's first black woman to wear the uniform.
