Business owners and elected officials say the Fire Island resort communities hit hard by Superstorm Sandy are ready for a busy summer season.

A group called ReviveFI held a press conference Friday in the village of Ocean Beach. Local business leaders joined Suffolk County Executive Steve Bellone to promote tourism on the 32-mile-long barrier island east of New York City.

The resort community saw 200 homes washed away in the storm. Large dunes were washed away by rising tides, inundating some homes with sand.

Work continued on Friday as a ferry full of construction material was delivered dockside.

Business owner John Randazzo said most restaurants and shops will be open by Memorial Day weekend or soon after.

ReviveFI is using about $100,000 for an advertising campaign.
