President Obama stroked Austin's ego during his visit to Applied Materials.

"I think Austin's always been on the forefront of everything, music, technology...so it almost seems natural to start here," said one attendee.

Another Austinite said, "And it also, to me, kinda says everything in Texas is bigger and better."

The appearance is part of his "middle class jobs and opportunity tours" where he's promoting innovation leading toward economic growth.

"He plugged a bunch of Austin start-ups and apps and I think that that's going to be great for everyone," said another Austinite.

An attendee added, "Very inspirational about getting high school students in line with high tech jobs."

Some say the end product of that is an employer like Applied Materials.

San Antonio Mayor, Julian Castro, said, "Manufacturing is coming back, but it's high tech manufacturing now and that means we need people with skills that can do those jobs in communities like Austin and San Antonio."

"It's always an occasion to hear the President speak about the down to the street issues of importance as it relates to jobs and education," said Texas House Rep. Dawnna Dukes.

Congressman Lloyd Doggett added, "We talked about going forward and how important it is to have full implementation of the affordable care act so everyone can gain access to health insurance. It's going to be really good for our community."

It's a visit that some people feel is well-deserved and maybe even, overdue.
