Posted: Updated:

Austin Police have arrested and charged a driver they say hit a pedestrian on North Lamar Tuesday night and fled the scene.

Investigators arrested 28-year-old Cesar Marcario-Calvac and charged him with failure to stop and render aid for the May 7 incident.

According to investigators, Marcario-Calvac hit and killed the victim in the 6700 block of North Lamar around 10:00 PM. A witness saw the suspect's car fleeing southbound and attempted to follow it. However, the witness lost sight of the car.

Just after 11:00 PM a security guard found an abandoned car in the parking lot of 8000 Anderson Square that was not present on a previous round. The car had damage investigators say indicated it may have hit a person.

Investigators traced the car to Marcario-Calvac and interviewed him. According to the arrest affidavit, he admitted to hitting the pedestrian and fleeing the scene because he was scared.
