DA Lehmberg to be released from jail Thursday

Posted: Updated:

On Thursday Travis County District Attorney Rosemary Lehmberg will be released from jail.

She was booked into jail on April 19 after pleading guilty to driving while intoxicated. She was sentenced to 45 days in jail but will be released after serving just 20 days in jail for good behavior.

Lehmberg also was ordered to pay a $4,000 fine and will have her license suspended for 180 days.

After her arrest on April 12 investigators said her blood alcohol limit was .23, well over the legal limit of .08.

While serving her sentence, Lehmberg released a letter to the people of Travis County.

"I apologize to all of you," Lehmberg stated in the letter. "There can be no anger directed at me - or disappointment in me - greater than my own. And, I neither believe nor expect that any words written or speech given can possibly convey the magnitude of the shame I feel for breaking the law and therefore, the trust with the people I serve and the community I love."

However, many people across Central Texas have called on Lehmberg to resign her position. Local Attorney Kerry O'Brien has even filed a petition to remove Lehmberg from office.
