Gas prices soar in Chicago area, drivers hope for a decrease soon

Posted: Updated:
CHICAGO (FOX 32 News) -

Drivers: If it feels like you are paying more at the pump these days, you are right. Chicago's prices continue to be the highest in the country, and they jumped overnight.

The average price per gallon in the city is now $4.67. The average price in the suburbs is $4.51.

That price is a $0.30 increase since last month. It's also $0.75 higher than the national average.

Prices at the pump have jumped by 7% this week alone, and there's a reason for the increase.

FOX 32 News spoke with financial analyst Phil Flynn to try and find out why gas prices in the Chicago area are skyhigh and when they might go down again.

Car owners definitely need the amount they pay at the pump to decrease, since summer travel season is almost upon us.
