The original Opal Divine's Freehouse located on 6th Street will be closing its doors on May 31.
The restaurant plans to reemerge downtown at another location in the summer of 2014.
The Opal Divine's family has grown since the Freehouse opened in 2000. They expanded first to south Austin in 2005 with the opening of Opal Divine's Penn Field on South Congress Ave. Then North Austin welcomed Opal Divine's Marina at Parmer and MoPac in 2007 and most recently Opal Divine's Davenport opened in West Austin at Westlake Drive and Loop 360.
Owners of Opal Divine say the Freehouse building is the smallest of the Opal Divine locations and has become the limiting factor in the cuisine of the chain. They say they are working on a deal in the downtown area for a 5400-sq ft space. The projected opening date is June 2014.
