Friday morning you could hear the rumble of motorcycles near the state Capitol.
TxDOT launched their share the road campaign. The Patriot Guard of Texas was on hand as well as several APD motorcycle cops to bring attention to motorcycle safety.
Their motorcycles carried flags saying "look twice for motorcycles." They want those in cars to make sure they look for motorcyclists who can be hard to see.
"Unfortunately in the past 20 years I've been in law enforcement we've seen some very preventable yet tragic incidents that have occurred with motorcycles. Just here in Austin alone in 2012 we had 530 crashes involving motorcycles. Of those in 2012, 14 of them were fatalities where people lost their lives. That's 18 percent of the total fatalities for the city of Austin," said APD motorcycle officer Lt. Robert Richmond.
"It's definitely something we need to bring awareness… to watch out for bikes and also for bike awareness. Pay attention to the road. Some of the other drivers out there just aren't conscious of what's going on when bike riders are around them," said Patriot Guard member Karn Clausen.
