A new plan to renovate Auditorium Shores may see the park close for an entire year beginning in 2014. The slated improvements to the park would come courtesy of a $3.5 million donation from event planning company C3 Presents.
Improvements to the area would include a new off-leash area for dog owners, fixing of grassy areas destroyed by erosion, and the leveling out of uneven areas of the ground. While the closing of the park for one year would be an inconvenience to event planners, they realize the improvements would increase the quality of the area.
"This is something we've known has been coming. They are going to make the grounds a lot more beautiful, which is better for us," said Jori Sitz, with the March of Dimes.
The Austin Parks and Recreation Board will be discussing the donation from C3 Presents and the improvements on Friday, while the city is expected to vote on the issue later this month.
C3 Presents hosts several events at Auditorium Shores throughout the year.
