Chicago Heights teacher Jill Krysinski wins Golden Apple Award

Posted: Updated:

A Chicago Heights teacher was surprised in a big way Thursday morning. She was given one of the most prestigious honors of her profession, the Golden Apple Award.

Bloom High School science teacher Jill Krysinski was recognized for her outstanding work Thursday morning, and presented with the Golden Apple Award for Excellence in Teaching.

"I'm very proud of our teachers and our staff, particularly the recipient today," Principal Michael Campbell said. "I think the individual has worked really hard over a number of years to earn this honor and has been highly recognized by our staff and students with the nomination."

Krysinski is very passionate about preserving the environment and our natural resources. Her classes encourage students to actually participate in projects that help this cause. This is so they can see the practical techniques they'll need to employ to get the funding and actual help to accomplish their goal of saving the environment.

More than 500 Illinois teachers were nominated for this honor, and nominees can be named by peers, students or parents. Ten teachers from the City of Chicago and the suburbs were chosen as winners this year.

This is the first time a Chicago Heights educator has won this esteemed award for excellence in shaping students' lives.

The honor includes a $3,000 monetary award, which she jokingly said she'll use to build a deck. The entire class` laughs showed they love that idea. Congratulations Jill!
