Meet the 'GPS Girl'

Posted: Updated:
NEW YORK (MYFOXNY) -

The "GPS Girl" gives directions to an estimated 25 million drivers around the world.

Now meet the person behind the voice: Karen Jacobson. Her soothing Australian accent launched her so-called Dashboard Diva career.

That said, some people don't think she's real. But she is, and it took about 50 hours of recording to get her on GPS devices.

In addition to being the voice that tells you where to go, now Jacobson is giving directions of a different kind in her new book, "The GPS Girl's Road Map for Your Future: Putting Yourself in the Driver's Seat."

"It's the kind of book I wanted to be able to buy," Jacobson said. "A lot of the tools in there are things that I do in terms of plotting out how I am going to approach my day, my week, my month my year and thinking if I could do anything what would I really want to do that I can love my life and love every aspect of it."

While Jacobson has taken a few career turns, her job as the GPS Girl is what continues to keep her on the map.

It appears the subway bedbug problem we've been reporting is getting worse. Commuters already have to contend with sweltering platforms, scurrying rats and packed train cars, and now there's another transit woe: fear of bedbugs.
