Cops: teen arrested for explosives found in home

Posted: Updated:
NEW YORK (MYFOXNY) -

A 16-year-old student at Edison High School in New Jersey was arrested and charged with possession of explosive devices after cops say they found homemade bombs and shotgun shells inside his home.

Edison police say they found fuses attached to several carbon dioxide cartridges packed with gunpowder, fireworks and empty shotgun shells.

They say there was no indication the teen was planning to use the devices for any specific reason.

Police Chief Thomas Bryan likened the possibility of damage from the explosives to the Boston Marathon bombing, NJ.com reported.

The teen, who's name has not been made public, was arrested early Monday morning after a resident contacted police in response to requests for information about bomb threats made against the high school earlier this month.

The boy was released to a family member.
