Willie Nelson's 80th birthday bash turned into a benefit concert for the West Volunteer Fire Dept.
Nelson performed for a sold out crowd at The Back Yard in Bee Cave on Sunday. The show was originally set to celebrate Nelson's birthday and the 20th anniversary of The Back Yard, but when Nelson heard what happened in West he decided to send the proceeds to the fire department there.
Nelson released the following statement:
"West is just a few miles from my hometown of Abbott. I was born and raised here and it was my backyard growing up. This is my community. These friends and neighbors have always been and are still a part of my life. My heart is praying for the community that we call home."
Nelson also bussed more than 100 residents of West who directly affected by the April 17th explosion to view the concert for free.
