SOUTHFIELD, Mich. (WJBK) -

Mid-Century modernism swings into the Southfield Municipal Complex this weekend.

The Michigan Modernism Exposition is where you will find home items that will appreciate in value.

"Some things are expensive.  There [are] no two ways about it.  But those are kind of investment pieces," said Tom Gibbs, a dealer based in Royal Oak and Boston.

The expo exposits all things swank, swell, cool and far out.  There is furniture, decor, lighting, oddities, collectable pieces and art -- stuff that predicted a future that had us lounging on the moon.

Gibbs said mid-mod picks up when the economy is good, and guess what?  Mid-mod is up.

"It's been very good, I think, especially this year.  I'm mostly a website, and my website's rocking pretty good," he said.  

"I've been trying to buy a building in the area for six months, and every time I want to buy one, someone else is buying it or there's a deposit on it or there's a contract.  So I think Detroit and the rest of the economy has gotten a lot better.  It's picked up."

The Michigan Modernism Exposition is Saturday from 12:00 to 6:00 p.m. and Sunday from 12:00 to 5:00 p.m.  Tickets are $10 at the door or discounted if you like the show on Facebook.
