ATLANTA -

DeKalb County authorities say a front tire from a pickup truck flew over the median wall of Interstate 85 northbound near Atlanta and killed a driver of a minivan in the southbound lanes.

Investigators say the incident happened around 8 a.m. near Shallowford Road. They say 47-year-old Aila Masud was killed instantly, and her 16-year-old daughter traveling with her was injured.

The teen was transported to Children's Hospital of Atlanta at Egleston for observation.

Investigators say they don't know how the tire fell off the truck. It's not clear if charges will be filed against the truck's driver.

Hundreds of mourners turned out at the Georgia Islamic Institute in Lawrenceville for Masud's funeral on Friday.

"Everybody is shocked to hear what had happened. And you can see the turnout is a testament that they loved them," said family friend Tarique Sidiqu.

Friends said that Masud's daughter is a student at Atlanta Girls' School. They said that the teen, Masud's husband and their two other children were at the burial.

According to Muslim tradition, the body is buried before sunset as soon as possible at after the death.
