V8 Supercars Austin 400 will be held at Circuit of the Americas in May. A couple of the V8 drivers were out at the track Tuesday preparing for the race.
"As a driver it's got everything. It's got slow corners. Fast corners, got elevation. It's pretty much a driver's dream. So I'm looking forward to getting out there and tearing it up in a V8 Supercar in May," said V8 Supercar driver Fabian Coulthard.
While a couple of the V8 drivers are out here getting familiar with the track, they're also here to promote it. And somebody else lending a helping hand is NASCAR driver Kurt Busch.
"For me I just got a phone call from Adam Firth [Chief Marketing Officer for V8 Supercars] he said ‘hey you want to come out Tuesday?' I said well yeah. Chance to drive somebody else's car. To drive a foreign car. I shouldn't say foreign. It's a race car. And to drive a different discipline of motorsports that's what was exciting. Then you put the icing on the cake with it being the Circuit of the Americas. I'm happy to bring my Cup car for them to drive as well," Busch said.
FOX 7 sports reporter John Hygh took a test ride in a V8 Supercar on Tuesday. He rode alongside V8 Supercar driver James Courtney.
"I didn't know what to expect at first. But once we took off and hit top speeds on some of the straightaways, I thought it was amazing," said Hygh. "Every time he (Courtney) down shifted or hit the breaks, I felt like I was gonna fly through the windshield, but all in all it was a great experience."
COTA will host the V8 Supercars Austin 400 May 17-19.
