CSI and Be The Match: Save a life through bone marrow donation

Posted: Updated:
CHICAGO (FOX 32 News) -

You can save a life through a bone marrow donation, at a special event hosted by Be The Match and the Computer Systems Institute at 29 East Madison.

Chicago campus president Ross Bravo explained how the April bone marrow drive and the on-campus awareness campaign have informed the community of how important bone marrow donations can be.

Every day in the United States, an estimated 6,000 people need a bone marrow transplant.

One staff member recently learned that a little girl she knows named LaNyah suffers from sickle-cell anemia. She just represents one of 10,000 people that register to be matched with a donor every year, and she needs the public's help to save her life.

The Institute was established in 1989, and offers post-secondary training programs for the business, networking and healthcare fields. Be The Match is the 12th organization CSI has partnered up with since November 2012.

CSI wants to give back to the community, and bridge the gap of what its students learn in school and what they can potentially do as graduate of their training programs.

The awareness campaign takes place on April 30 from 11 a.m. - 4 p.m. Students who participate are encouraged to sign up to become donors.

CSI dean Zachary George said singing up is easy, can be done on a computer in minutes, and the actual test is painless. He encouraged the public to participate, and give back to those in need with CSI and Be The Match.
