Camp Mabry held its annual open house this weekend and after this week it certainly had a more special meaning to the theme, which was "Operation Hero Homecoming," is about welcoming back veterans from previous conflicts.

This weekend's open house obviously focused on honoring the men and women in the military, but also those who protect us here at home, such police, firefighters and EMTs.

After this week's deadly bombings in Boston and the explosion that killed 14 in West, Texas.

Those who put their lives on the line say it's just a reminder of the dangers they face, but they also say it's what you sign up for.

"The folks in uniform whether it's military, police, fire or ems, this is what we signed up to do. We know the dangers that are involved in that, but it's a mission that we signed up for," said Cpl. Wuthipong Tantaksinanukij, Austin Police Department.
