A recent federal inspection gave failing safety marks to the Carnival Fascination cruise ship.
It's another black eye to the world's largest cruise company. The inspection was conducted on Feb. 21, but the results were just posted on the CDC website.
Inspectors from the Centers for Disease Control and Prevention gave the Fascination a score of 84. Any score under an 85 is considered failing.
The ship lost three points for the presence of flies and a roach nymph in food preparation and storage areas.
The ship was also heavily penalized for its recreational water park and water toys.
Inspectors say the water park and water toys were chlorinated at levels below federal standards. According to the staff, the systems had been updated in November 2012 and the halogen set point level was set too low.
The surprise inspection of the Fascination came less than two weeks after the Carnival Triumph had a fire that left the ship powerless for several days as it remained adrift at sea.
