Suspected child molester denies allegations in jailhouse interview

Posted: Updated:

Accused of preying on children for decades, we talked to Alfred Chavez from Maricopa County Jail.

He calls himself a minister, a man of God. He says those girls who came forward saying he sexually abused them are lying.

"I'm innocent of all these charges that they're saying, there's no truth to it," said Alfred Chavez in a jailhouse interview with FOX 10.

The 71-year-old is accused of child molestation, sexual conduct with a minor, and kidnapping.

"I minister God's word. I got saved on May 1 of 1990. God took everything away, cigarettes, drinking, everything, I've been ministering God's word ever since."

We asked him, why do you think these girls made the allegations?

"Probably because their mother was mad at me," he said.

Chavez claims that former friend lied about all of this to get back at him. But police say, during the investigation, nine victims came forward accusing Chavez of abuse dating back to the 70s.

Reporter: "Have you seen the charges the charges against you? Because there are 5 pages and 9 victims and they're all girls who give very similar stories."

Chavez: "I don't know nothing about that. I don't know where they got those girls."

Because of the statute of limitations -- Chavez is only facing charges involving 5 victims. He's being held without bond.

"All of those allegations they're not true and there's no way they can prove that. They're not true because I haven't done that."

No sexual attraction to young girls?

"No, in fact since I've been divorced I've only had two girlfriends," he answered.

Chavez says he's a minister but is not affiliated to any church. Anyone with information on this case should call Phoenix Police.
