PHILADELPHIA -

The 30-year-old man who pleaded guilty last year to pointing a green laser at SkyFOX was sentenced to three months of jail followed by seven months of home confinement Wednesday.

The U.S. Attorney's Office says 30-year-old Daniel Dangler of Philadelphia aimed a laser pointer at the news helicopter back in July of 2012. In October, he pleaded guilty.

SkyFOX was on assignment when a photographer inside noticed the cockpit light up with a bright green light. The U.S. Attorney's Office says the photographer told the pilot not to look in the direction of the beam.

The crew was able to identify the house where the laser was coming from. Police officers were then dispatched to the home, where investigators say Dangler was questioned.

Although the U.S. Attorney's Office says he initially denied using the laser,  he admitted to knowingly shining the laser beam at the helicopter to investigators with the FBI.

The FAA has a civil case pending against Dangler, which could result in a fine of up to $11,000, the U.S. Attorney's Office said.
