Google Fiber headed to Austin

Posted: Updated:

Multiple sources have confirmed to FOX 7 that a big announcement coming Tuesday from Google will be that the search giant's gigabit service, Goggle Fiber, is coming to Austin.

Google Fiber boasts a connection speed 100 times faster than today's broadband with instant downloads and crystal clear TV. The service first launched in Kansas City last fall.

Joshua Baer, a local technology expert and managing director of Capital Factory, a company that helps accelerate tech startups, says Goggle Fiber will have a big impact on businesses in Austin.

"It's just going to make more good people move here. It's going to attract more talented engineers, programmers, creatives and other people will be drawn to it. And then more businesses are going to come because they're going to be drawn by the people. The people being here are going to draw more businesses here," he said.

The announcement from Google is Tuesday at 11 a.m. at Brazos Hall. More than 100 community leaders have been invited to attend. Governor Rick Perry's office confirmed that he would be there for the announcement
