There is another push for casino gambling at the state capitol. Monday it was announced a public hearing will be held Wednesday on the issue.
During a news conference Monday morning state Senator John Carona said he has broad support from business groups and the gaming industry. If the resolution is approved by state lawmakers, the proposed amendment would be placed on a general election ballot for consideration.
The Dallas Republican and those supporting SJR 64 say it's time for Texas to keep the more than $3 billion that's spent each year at out of the state gaming operations.
"At a minimum the creation of destination resort casinos in this state would create 75,000 new and well-paying jobs in 40 different sectors of the economy making it one of the largest development opportunities in this state now or for decades to come," said Senator Carona.
The gambling amendment would allow 21 casinos across the state. It would also create a gaming commission to police the new industry.
