Skinned Pit Bull, Another's Skull Found In Overbrook Park

PHILADELPHIA -

SPCA officers are investigating a tragic and gruesome case of animal cruelty. We want to warn you that this story is disturbing.

FOX 29's Shawnette Wilson reported from Overbrook on Friday night that neighbors told the SPCA they had been calling police since Wednesday to come check out the remains.

Neighbors also say a lot of pit bulls are dumped here, although the SPCA says this is the first they heard of it.

A neighbor walking in Royal Gardens Park at 68th and Oxford made the gruesome discovery.

Someone skinned what SPCA investigators say is a 2-year-old male pit bull and tossed it in the grass. Only the skin on the head and legs were still intact.

"The animal was skinned from literally one side to the other under the belly down to rear leg area," an investigator told FOX 29 News.

The SPCA says the dog didn't have fighting wounds on it and appeared to have been healthy. They believe it was already dead before it was skinned, but they are waiting for a cause of death.

In this same park on Friday afternoon, investigators also found the skull of another pit bill.

They don't know if the incidents are related.
