Half the battle of losing weight is dealing with how to fight temptation.
One man found a way to survive the diet temptations and lose 100 pounds.
In one of the few photos Travis Martin has of himself heavy, he's literally hiding behind his dog.
He was 29, and he felt like a failure.
"I would get up well over 300 pounds, go on crash diets that wouldn't work. They weren't practical or sustainable," Martin said. "And you think it's all your fault. You have no self-discipline, you're a glutton, you're a bad person."
Now 42, and a father of three living with his fiancee Sasha, Martin says he hit bottom back in 1999.
"And I said, God, I need some help. I've gone as far as I can go. And literally, I felt changed. And I decided that I would become a different person, immediately. I would not look in the mirror and tell myself I hated myself anymore, that I was ugly, that I was fat," said Martin.
He started journaling.
"And I would step back, and listen to the words on the paper, and I began to realize, that's how I sound to people! No wonder I'm unsuccessful in every area of my life," said Martin.
So, he started rewriting his story. Focusing on the positives in his life.
"I began to see what was good about Travis, what was funny, and there wasn't that much bad," said Travis.
Martin learned how to cook healthy and created a weight loss "survival kit," full of substitutes for the foods he craves.
It allows him to eat pretty much anywhere, without feeling deprived.
"I'm going to eat right more days than I'm going to eat wrong. And that's how I lost over 100 pounds," said Martin.
13 years later, Martin says he no longer fears failure, the inner bully has been silenced.
"And I know that's a big deal for a lot of people, they think, "If I lose the weight, I will gain it back." But I have no fear of that. Because I'm absolutely super-psyched about the way I live. It's pleasure to me now," said Martin.
