Rowan Students Among Victims Of Holiday Weekend Tire Slashings

GLASSBORO, N.J. -

Police are on the lookout after vandals struck half a dozen locations across Glassboro near Rowan University. The suspects went on a holiday weekend tire slashing spree that left drivers aggravated and worried.

"I was a little scared. They were in our driveway close to our house, vandalizing our property," tire slashing victim Michele Heilmann told FOX 29.

Police say the vandals struck two apartment complexes where students live off campus and a row of off campus homes on South Delsea Drive, where at least five cars were damaged.

"It's pretty terrifying when it comes down to it," said Travis Gensamer, who says tires on two of his roommates' cars were slashed, even though they were parked in this garage.

"We don't know who did it," he said. "We'd like to know after all these houses got hit. It's kind of scary when you have somebody in the garage where all the cars are. It's weird."

Heilmann lives right next door. Last Friday, she came out to find the front tire on her Honda CRV slashed. She says the vandalism not only caused a lot of worry, but time and $150 for a new tire.

"Definitely an inconvenience. I had no car," she said.

The vandals also struck at a Pep Boys parking lot, where employees say at least five customers' cars had their tires slashed. The vandals were caught on tape. One on a bike, the other walking. Police now have the video.

"You can't just go around vandalizing people's property, it causes inconvenience and can cost a lot of people money," Heilmann added.

"I'd like them to get caught, but what can you do?" Gensamer said.

So far, police have no suspects. Most of the cars that were damaged, have now been repaired. Police don't know why so many Rowan University students were targeted by the vandals.
