Targeting prostitution and drugs, tonight Austin Police are focusing on a north Austin neighborhood that officers and residents say must be cleaned up.
For years, Rundberg Lane in north Austin has been an area of town filled with crime. Police have been busy trying to turn the challenged neighborhood around.
"We're going to take you to jail if you meet certain criteria, just to be sure that the criminals in the area know that we are out here and we want to give the community back to the people," said Sgt. Keith Bazzle.
This weekend officers are using a one million dollar grant from the Department of Justice to carry out the 'Restore Rundberg Project' to target all crime in the area.
"A lot of problems in the Rundberg area are prostitution, drug dealing, and burglaries. That's what we're trying to curb," said Bazzle.
Officers made 14 arrests for various crimes during the last initiative in February and will remain on the streets until 3 a.m. Sunday morning.
