3 arrested after illegal pot growing operation found at Goodyear home

Posted: Updated:

Three people were taken into custody Thursday after officers bust a marijuana grow house in the west valley.

Officers pulled out dozens of plants from the home, located just north of the Estrella Mountains, near 130th Avenue and Indian Springs Road.

FOX 10 cameras were there as officers served a search warrant at the home.

The SWAT teams went in early Thursday morning. They discovered marijuana was being grown inside a structure on the property. Investigators found more than 100 plants.

Officers pulled out the pot plants Thursday afternoon. They were all growing in this unassuming cinderblock structure toward the back of the property.

"I have never suspected anything. They have always been really quiet. Never really hear much at all from them," said neighbor Paul Cook.

Neighbors tell us a family lives here. They never expected marijuana to be growing on the property.

"No not at all. They always had kids out here playing," says Michelle Walters, neighbor.

A confidential source tipped off police, and they raided the home around 6:30 a.m.

"There was a huge loud crashing noise, I couldn't figure out what it was," says Rachel Quamme.

But Quamme quickly realized what was going on. She knows the family and never suspected anything.

"Very quiet house. This is a very quiet neighborhood. You can imagine how shocked we were when we heard all the noises this morning."

Police searched the house and tagged items on the property. Officers and K-9's from Glendale and the DEA worked with Goodyear PD on this.

"Our chief put into practice a new narcotics unit about 6 months ago. That unit has been training with other agencies over the last 6 months and this is their first big bust," said Lisa Kutis of the Goodyear Police Department.

Police wouldn't say what the owners were planning on doing with all these plants. Three people, two men and one woman, were arrested.
