Marriage Equality Logo Goes Viral On Facebook

Posted: Updated:
PHILADELPHIA -

The U.S. Supreme Court begins a second day of arguments on same sex marriage. Next on the docket is the Defense of Marriage Act.

The Supreme Court will hear arguments Wednesday on whether legally-married same-sex couples should be entitled to the same federal benefits available to married heterosexual couples.

On Wednesday, the justices heard arguments about whether or not to strike down California's Proposition 8 Law, which ended legal same-sex marriages in that state.

The justices had numerous questions for the lawyers. Justice Anthony Kennedy is the most-likely swing vote. Court watchers say he seems unlikely to overturn Prop 8 but more likely to dismiss the case entirely due to a lack of standing.

If that happens, California would revert to a lower court's ruling and allow marriage equality.

And did you notice a pink equals sign on a bright red background all over Facebook? Well, behind the red invasion is the Human Rights Campaign. They changed the color of their logo to show support for marriage equality and in a post asked users to make it their profile picture.

In less than 24 hours, the original post was shared close to 50,000 times.

It is likely we will not have a decision from the justices on these cases until June.
