UT-El Paso being evacuated due to threat

EL PASO, Texas (AP) - The University of Texas at El Paso is being evacuated due to an anonymous threat.

UTEP said in a statement Tuesday that it had ordered an evacuation of its campus and canceled evening classes. Students were seen hurrying away from buildings Tuesday afternoon. University spokeswoman Veronique Masterson said the evacuation was still in progress at about 2:30 p.m. MST.

The El Paso Times reports that students and staff received a text message at about 2 p.m. saying: "The university has a bomb threat please evacuate the university campus."

The Times reported that police were seen swarming the school.

El Paso is a U.S.-Mexico border city in far West Texas. UTEP has an enrollment of more than 22,000 students.
