Austin police have charged a man after they say he stabbed a man in the face with scissors.

Police say the victim was trying to stop 18-year-old Matthew Barnes from burglarizing his vehicle that was parked in an apartment parking lot located in the 3500 block of Capital of Texas Highway.

Barnes took off running when the victim confronted him. The victim chased after Barnes and they met face to face in an apartment walkway. The victim told police that Barnes stabbed him in the face with the scissors and then hit him in the forehead with a flashlight.

The two continued to struggle and eventually with the help of the victim's friends, they were able to get the scissors away from Barnes. The victim's friends held Barnes down until police arrived.

Barnes was charged with aggravated assault with a deadly weapon, a second degree felony.
