PHILADELPHIA -

Call it a miracle or a talented team of local surgeons - either way, a baby boy defied the odds stacked up against him before he was even born.

Thousands of tiny cysts were discovered wrapped around the left lobe of baby Elijah's lung during a 20-week ultrasound.

For the Leffingwell family, the discovery was the start of their journey.

At the Children's Hospital of Philadelphia, doctors performed a complex, high-risk operation that required them to partially remove Elijah out of his mother's womb just halfway through her pregnancy.

A mass the size of an orange was removed from his lung.

You can watch the story in the video above.
