NEW YORK (MYFOXNY) -

A grand jury has indicted Julio Acevedo on manslaughter charges in the deaths of an expectant couple in Brooklyn, according to Kings County District Attorney Charles Hynes.

The additional charges against Acevedo are manslaughter in the second degree and criminally negligent homicide, Hynes said. A grand jury had previously indicted him for leaving the scene of an incident without reporting where death results.

"While we knew it was a snowy evening and the defendant was speeding, our investigation has developed additional information concerning the nature of Mr. Acevedo's conduct leading up to the fatal crash," Hynes said in a statement.

Investigators say that Acevedo was traveling at about 69 mph, more than twice the speed limit, when the car he was driving slammed into a livery cab in Williamsburg, killing Nachman and Raizy Glauber on March 3, 2013. Their baby was delivered by C-section and later died.

Witnesses told cops that Acevedo was speeding and recklessly passing cars just before the crash. They said accelerated as he drove right by a fire truck and another car, rounded a curve at a high speed, and then crashed into the cab on Kent Avenue, the D.A.'s office said.

Witnesses also told investigators that Acevedo got of the car, saw the carnage, and then took off, the D.A.'s office said.

He fled to the Poconos, where he ultimately surrendered to law enforcement.

Acevedo has a prior arrest record, but his family said he is a loving father, the AP reported. His lawyer has said the crash was a tragic accident.
