Austin Police have charged a man after they say he stole a pedicab from 6th Street and Pedernales.

According to Police, the pedicab was parked outside of Red Devil Rides, a pedicab company when 38-year-old Luis Garcia Lorente rode off with it.

The driver of the pedicab told police she parked it in front of the business and went inside. When she returned it was missing.

The manager of Red Devil Rides told police at that he observed a man on the pedicab but did not realize at the time that he was allowed to be on there because he thought the man was a temporary employee hired for the SXSW event. He also did not immediately recognize the pedicab as one of theirs because they leased it from another company.

The manager described the pedicab as having a "John Deere" colors with the body being green and the upholstery being yellow and marked with the number 87. He was also able to provide a description of Lorente.

About an hour later, police spotted the pedicab on Chalmers Ave and E. Cesar Chavez being driven by a subject matching the Red Devil Rides manager's description. The suspect was identified as Lorente and after a brief struggle with police he was taken into custody.

Lorente has been charged with theft, a state jail felony.
