Searching for bus schedules and taxis is getting a lot easier thanks to the new app Ride Scout that launched this week.
With thousands of people descending on Austin for South by Southwest this getting around town can be challenging. There are already apps that will show Capital Metro schedules or for contacting a cab company.
However there has not been where you could access all of that information at once. Ride Scout CEO and founder Joseph Kopser said it is his company's goal to change that.
The app is free to download and works with your phone's GPS. It breaks down by cost and schedule the available transportation options. Currently Capital Metro, Car 2 Go, taxi cabs and pedicab drivers are taking part.
A map will show you in real time what is nearby. Users can even book some of the rides with the app.
Kopser said he hopes this will help people maximize their options, leave their cars parked and ultimately reduce emissions.
"I'm excited for the future by getting people out of their cars we're going to save that money and congestion," Kopser said. "Austin is a popular city and people will move here every day and if we can get them out of their cars it will save a lot of money and time for all."
Kopser said Ride Scout is working with the city of Austin. There is also a ride sharing feature. Washington D.C. is the next city the team is looking at launching.
