Authorities have released the identities of the man and the deputies involved in Wednesday's officer-involved shooting.
Bastrop County Sheriff's Office says they received a call reporting a family disturbance at a home located at 121 Stony Mont Drive and that the suspect was armed.
When deputies arrived, they were confronted by a man identified as 78-year-old Jose Manuel Cantu, who was in possession of a firearm.
Deputies say Cantu was instructed to drop his weapon multiple times, in which he disregarded. Cantu was shot after he raised his weapon and pointed it towards deputy sheriffs.
Cantu was transported to the hospital by STARFlight, where he remains in critical condition.
Deputies say they learned that the caller was Cantu's daughter.
The responding officers were 30-year-old Mark Garcia and 32-year-old Stephen Broderick. Deputy Garcia has been with the Bastrop County Sheriff's Office since 2005. Investigator Broderick has been employed with the Bastrop County Office since 2008. Both deputies are currently under administrative leave.
The incident is currently being investigated by the Texas Rangers.
