Authorities conduct sex offender compliance check in Jonestown
It's the first sex offender compliance check for one small Travis County town.
Jonestown police conducted its first sex offender compliance check this morning.
These unannounced visits surprised one registered sex offender who walked in his house as soon as he saw officers. He eventually came out.
"As you can see, they can get very dangerous. When a person like that runs from us and he recognizes that we are officers he had dealt with and we always treat him with respect. When you run from us, it makes us think you're trying to hide something or you're trying to harm us," said JPD Sgt. Andre Anderson.
Police say it's important to keep up with sex offenders because many often move.
The US Marshal's Office and the Texas Department of Public Safety helped with the checks.
