SOUTHFIELD, Mich. (WJBK) -

20-year-old India Coleman was the victim of a brutal crime.  She and her friends, Lauren Trotty and Curtis Clements, were shot and killed inside a home on Coyle on Detroit's west side.

"I just couldn't stop screaming," said Alesia Myers, who helped raise her niece.  She couldn't believe the phone call she received.

"It's just unreal that this would happen to my niece at this age and to my family."

Police have arrested Trotty's ex-boyfriend, Shadell Love.  Another man, Kevin Lewis, has also been charged.

It happened Wednesday night.  The bodies were discovered inside the home Thursday morning, and along with the bodies were two children -- Trotty's five-year-old daughter and Coleman's one-year-old daughter.

"What could go through someone's mind to just destroy so many lives?" Myers said.  "Those kids standing there all night long with their mothers' dead bodies."

The baby is now with her father's family.  Meanwhile, Coleman's family is heartbroken.  She had an apartment in Detroit, but was staying the night with Trotty when this tragedy happened.  She was also getting ready to move to Riverview because her family worried about her living in the city.

"Indy was a very smart, independent girl," Myers explained.  "I felt some solace in the fact that she was on her way out of there.  She was on her way out of there and never made it."

Now she has a message for other young people.

"I want them to see what it's really like out here in this world and to let them know that things like this can touch you.  I want them to arm themselves with some knowledge to make better choices," said Myers.

Coleman's family is now faced with the emotional and expensive task of laying her to rest.  They are hosting a fundraiser at the Wayne Bowl, 36900 Michigan Avenue in Wayne, at 7:00 p.m. on Friday.  Donations can also be made to the India C. Coleman Burial Fund at the Washtenaw Federal Credit Union.

Visitation for India Coleman will be Tuesday, March 19 from 12:00 to 6:00 p.m. at Haley Funeral Directors at 24525 Northwestern Highway in Southfield.  Her funeral will be held at Hope United Methodist Church at 26275 Northwestern Highway in Southfield on Wednesday, March 20 at 12:00 p.m.
