Austin Police have charged a man after they say he allegedly sexually assaulted a homeless man.

According to Police, on Jan. 28, 26-year-old Michael Connell approached a man who was panhandling in the downtown area.

The victim told police he agreed to go with Connell after he offered him a place to clean up and food.

Connell gave the victim a ride from 4th Street to a vacant mini-model apartment located in the 2900 block of Barton Skyway.

The victim told police that Connell directed him to the bathroom. As the victim was getting ready to take a shower Connell opened the door, holding a gun saying "This is gonna happen or badder things will."

Connell then forced the victim into a closet where he was sexually assaulted at gunpoint.

After the assault, Connell robbed the victim and left him outside the apartment.

Cornell has been charged with burglary of habitation with intent to commit sexual assault, a first degree felony.
