Late-Winter Storm Brings Coastal Flooding To Jersey Shore

Late-Winter Storm Brings Coastal Flooding To Jersey Shore

Posted: Updated:

In the aftermath of the late winter blast that moved through our area overnight, there are two big concerns Thursday morning.

The first is more flooded homes and roadways, with high tide peaking right around the time that "Good Day" went on the air early at 4 a.m.

And, second, are the power outages, thanks to the strong winds that brought down trees and power poles, particularly down the shore.

The strong winds and big waves actually brought people to the beaches Wednesday in South Jersey, and the storm gave them plenty to look at.

Also at the shore, strong winds toppled a row of utility poles along Stone Harbor Boulevard. Homes there will be without power for at least a couple days. Crews say it is too dangerous right now to fix them.

Atlantic City Electric reports a few thousand are without power. PECO, Delmarva and PSE&G are all reporting scattered outages.

Of course, we'll continue to keep you updated with the latest numbers throughout the morning.

WATCH LIVE ONLINE: "Good Day," 4:25 a.m.-10 a.m.

Our crews have been driving around to different shore points this morning to check on the flooding and any new wind damage.

Thursday weather looks damp and stormy.  It will be mild and muggy to start with spotty showers early followed by afternoon and evening storms.  Highs in the upper 70s with winds out of the SW 5-10 mph. Some of the storms will produce locally heavy rain and gusty winds.

This system is from the same cold front that caused the midwest tornadoes. It will also usher in cooler air for the holiday weekend.
