Boys fight for finals on “American Idol”: Zwecker

Posted: Updated:
CHICAGO (FOX 32 News) -

It was the boys turn to fight for a chance to make the finals on "American Idol" Wednesday night.

While northwest side resident Devin Velez did a great job, on an evening of a mixed bag of performances, Curtis Finch Jr. was likely the best of the lot.

The judges and the crowd in Las Vegas went crazy for Curtis' version of "I Think I Can Fly"—with four standing ovations from the judges. It's likely America will fly in with the votes for Curtis.

While "American Idol" still is topping the TV ratings, there has been a drop-off in viewers -- as has been widely reported.

One thing might change that. If Mariah Carey and Nicki Minaj again take off the gloves and openly voice what they think of each other's comments on the show. In talking to some key "Idol" sources, I've learned there is a concern that the judges' panel needs some of the fire that Simon Cowell used to provide.

In other words, controversy sells.
