Just in time for South by Southwest the newest hotel in downtown Austin opened its doors.
The Hyatt Place located at 3rd and Brazos is the largest Hyatt Place in the country with nearly 300 rooms. The addition of those rooms brings the total of hotel rooms in the downtown area to about 6,500.
"We have such a diverse market mix: good leisure travel, individual business travel and a very healthy convention market so, every property we add to our inventory helps us sell the destination in a more effective fashion," Bob Lander of the Austin Convention and Visitors Bureau said.
At least five other hotels are planned for the area. By 2016 the number of hotel rooms downtown will be approximately 9,500. City leaders have said that adding these hotels increase the chances of booking more large conventions in Austin which would boost the economy.
