YUMA, Ariz. (AP) - The Yuma County Intergovernmental Public Transportation Authority is considering asking voters to approve a one-tenth of a percent transit sales tax.
YCIPTA runs the Yuma County Area Transit bus system.
Funding for the bus system has been dependent on match funding from local municipalities, state and federal funds, fares, advertising, in-kind support and even private contributions.
The Yuma Sun reports revenues collected from such a tax is estimated at $2.2 million, based on retail sales.
Transit officials say a sales tax likely would eliminate contributions from local municipalities.
