APD names persons of interest in 2012 disappearance of Austin man

Posted: Updated:

An Austin father, husband, and son disappears without a trace. Now, for the first time, Austin police are releasing the names of people they think know what happened to Adrian Washington.

The last time anyone talked to or saw Washington alive was May 26th, 2012. There's little doubt that something bad happened. Now, all Washington's parents want is to bury their only son.

Robert Washington knows Adrian the 37-year-old is not coming home.

"Who ever done this I want them to answer for what they did. I want them to answer for what they did," Washington said. "Someone killed him."

It's a mystery Austin police are now turning to the public to help solve. He was supposed to meet a friend for lunch but Adrian never showed up.

Police released a surveillance photo of Adrian's car at a toll booth on I-45 after he ran errands the morning of May 26.This is also the last time anyone has seen Adrian's 2001 dark blue Ford Expedition.

According to police and family, Aldo Ray Washington last saw Adrian alive. He is Adrian's cousin and now a person of interest.

Detective Tim Hoppock is investigating this case. He is in the newly combined Missing Persons and Homicide Cold Case Unit.

"Aldo and Adrian would talk many times a day, in the last month, well over a 100 times on the cell phone and Adrian may have received a phone call. Since that point, Aldo Ray never called him again," Hoppock.

Detective Hoppock says he believes there are people out there with more information, but for whatever reason, haven't stepped forward. All he has are suspicious circumstances. For instance, one of Adrian's cell phones was discovered on a sidewalk in San Antonio a few days later. In one piece, without a scratch, as if someone put it there. And on the same day Adrian disappeared, police say this man was on his way to Austin.

Kenneth Hamilton is seen with his truck pulling a trailer near El Paso. He lives in South Dakota. Hamilton is the person Aldo Washington says he was with. Police say he is Washington's alibi.

"So Aldo Ray says, my friend Kenneth Hamilton was with me that weekend. We have a picture of Kenneth Hamilton traveling toward Austin that morning. Several hours later Adrian goes missing, Kenneth Hamilton has a car hauler trailer on the back of his truck that was empty coming to town."

Adrian is also a father of three. No one has explained to Washington's children where exactly dad is since no one knows. For now, the adults say daddy went to go met someone and hasn't come back. Adrian's parents say not until they find answers will they be able to actually explain to the kids that Adrian is no longer with them.

Investigators are convinced someone knows something about this case. They are urging you to call the tip line, 974-5250, or email them at apdmissingpersons@austintexas.gov. You can remain anonymous.

Adrian Washington's case isn't the only missing persons case with suspicious circumstances. Roxanne Paltauf was last seen July 11th, 2006 at a Budget Inn Motel off Rundberg Lane.

Police say she was staying with her boyfriend, Lewis Walls. He claims Roxanne left after an argument.

And Julie Ann Gonzalez disappeared on March 26th, 2010. Her car was found abandoned in a Walgreen's parking lot at Stassney and First Street. Her soon to be ex-husband was the last one to see her alive.

There are between 30 to 35 missing persons cases with suspicious circumstances in Austin.
