SOUTHFIELD, Mich. (WJBK) -

Officers in Southfield were involved in an early morning chase and shooting that left two suspects injured and three others in custody.

Investigators say officers responded to a home invasion in progress in the 21000 block of Potomac St. around 4 a.m. Monday morning. Officers arrived on scene to find three suspects running from the address and into an awaiting vehicle.

Investigators say the officers approached the suspects on foot. The driver of the vehicle sped forward, struck the patrol car and then headed for the officers.

Officers opened fire on the vehicle and struck two of the suspects.

The remaining suspects drove off and were pursued before crashing less than a mile away. They were taken into custody.

Altogether five suspects were arrested with two suspects being treated at local hospitals. The two officers involved in the shooting suffered minor injuries and are expected to fully recover.

The Oakland County Sheriff's Office is handling the investigation.
