Somewhere between 20 and 40,000 people were expected to show up to Zilker Park on Sunday for the 85th Annual Kite Festival.
"This is an absolute Austin institution. This is probably the most 'Austin' event that you can possibly find because it's all about families, being down here in Zilker park, having fun together," said Bobby Jenkins, President of ABC Home and Commercial Services, the title sponsor.
Jenkins said there was plenty of friendly competition.
"We're gonna have the biggest kite contest, the smallest kite contest, the one that flies the highest overhead," Jenkins said.
ABC Home and Commercial Services also gave away thousands of free kites to anyone who left theirs at home.
