Wrongful death lawsuit filed against Hays County Jail

Posted: Updated:

The Texas Civil Rights Project is taking on a case where a Hays County Jail inmate died after killing himself in custody.

The mother of the inmate, Eric Dykes, has filed a wrongful death lawsuit against the Hays County Jail.

The Texas Civil Rights Project says jail guards ignored Dykes' threats to take his own life while in solitary confinement.

They also allege the jail did not give Dykes the proper medication he required to treat his bi-polar disorder.

On March 28, 2011 Eric Dykes used a towel and a bag left in his cell to try and hang himself.

He died two days later at Seton Medical Center Hays in Kyle.
